Janis Joplin 1968 Historically Significant Handwritten Letter to Linda Gravenites

Rock and blues legend Janis Joplin has handwritten and signed this outstanding, historic five page letter written to her close friend Linda Gravenites where she references laying down the track to her 1968 recording of “Piece of my Heart,” with her band ”Big Brother & the Holding Company.” In her letter which is written on three pieces of 6 X 9 stationery using fine black felt tip pen, Joplin writes, “Things still very weird here-recording’s hard…Got 2 tracks down though…Piece of my Heart. It's gonna be a long hard drag, but we'll make it.” Joplin writes of her busy schedule and success, “Things are looking a little better for me…took pictures for “Glamour”…I’m also mentioned in the new “Vogue,” & …Nat Hentohh (!) is interviewing me for an article in the “Sunday New York Times.” Joplin states, “So shit that makes Vogue, Glamour, N.Y. Times, Teen-Set, Life, Look, Wash. Post, the Voice, N.Y. Free Press- Jesus I guess I must be happy!,” adding details about some of the guys she met, “…Jeff, harp player in a blues band…And also an Irish R & R band is staying here at the Chelsea & I’m ‘seeing’ the guitar player. Henry…” Janis asks her friend to find a realtor to start looking for a house in Mill Valley, and adds “Oh & here’s some money…Oh wow, you could have a sewing room & maybe A SUNDECK & 8 OR 50 DOGS & IT WOULD BE SO FINE…!!” Joplin passes along scheduling details including trips to L.A and Winterland and concludes on the fifth side of her letter, by writing “Well ‘bye, see you soon. I love you all, Janis.” Joplin was well on her way in achieving worldwide fame but her abuse of alcohol, drugs and a hard life on the road ended in her death by overdose in January, 1970 at the age of 27. Joplin’s cover of the song “Piece of my Heart,” mentioned in this letter, is among her most famous recordings and is listed among “Rolling Stone’s” list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and is also included among The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.” Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
