1986 Mets vs. Red Sox Original World Series "Opening" Game 1 Full Ticket

This is an original full ticket stub from game 1 of the 1986 World Series where the New York Mets beat the Boston Red Sox 4 games to 3, in one of the most exciting series in baseball history. In this opening game played at Shea Stadium on October 18th 1986, a crowd of 55,076 watched a classic pitching duel between Boston’s Bruce Hurst and New York’s Ron Darling. The Red Sox would win this opener 1-0 but the Mets went on to win 4 of the next 6 games, stunning the Red Sox in game 6 to force a deciding 7th game. In game 6, perhaps the most memorable game in World Series history, the Mets turned a near series loss into an extension to Game 7 by one of the most dramatic and talked about plays in baseball history. In the bottom of the 10th inning and the Sox only one out away from winning the series at Shea Stadium, Mookie Wilson came up to bat. Wilson battled pitcher Bob Stanley (pitching ace Roger Clemens had been taken out in the 8th inning (a controversial move that only added later to the lore), and with one strike away from losing the game and thus the series, Wilson hit a slow moving ball up the 1st base line, that, to the shock and amazement of everyone on the field and off, went right under the mitt and through the legs of 1st baseman Bill Buckner, allowing the winning run, (a euphoric Ray Knight who would later be name the series MVP), to score. The stadium virtually exploded and the Red Sox, stunned, walked slowly off the field. Two days later the Mets and the Sox played Game 7, again at Shea, with a crowd bordering on hysteria. The Mets beat the Sox 8-5, giving New York a celebration of the city's first baseball World Championship in eight years. Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees authenticity.
