Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) Original Wire Photograph 1966 vs. Henry Cooper, London

Young World Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) looks poised in this original 6.25 X 10.5 1966 wire photograph that is stamped and captioned on the verso “Quiet Before the Battle,” photographed at the entrance of the Piccadilly Hotel, London, May 20, 1966 on the day before his second meeting with Britain’s Heavyweight Champion, Henry Cooper. Clay experienced one of his few knock downs during their meeting in 1963 when he referred to Cooper as “…the best fighter I ever met. He’s really a great fighter and you can’t take anything away from him. He shook me every time he hit me.” Ali once again defeated Cooper to retain his World Heavyweight Title, scoring a sixth round TKO.
