This wonderful black and white photograph measuring 20 x 16, is a vintage image of the third incarnation of New York City's Madison Square Garden, which was located on 50th St. and 8th Ave. The arena actually took up an entire city block, from 49th St. to 50th, and 8th Ave. to 9th. The Garden first opened at 23rd St. and 5th Ave. in 1879. It was then rebuilt, designed by renowned architect Stanford White, the following year. White would suffer an infamous death at this location only 16 years later, when he was murdered by ex-girlfriend and showgirl Evelyn Nesbit's jealous husband, millionaire Harry K. Thaw. The arena moved uptown in December 1925 to the location at 50th and 8th, and then finally to its current location at Penn Station in 1968. Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
