The 2009 World Series Baseball Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on: 11/6/2009

New York Mets Manager and former Brooklyn Dodgers star Gil Hodges has signed this original Mets line-up card in blue ballpoint pen. The line-up card is filled out by Hodges in his "rookie" season as Manager of this young franchise as the visiting team for the second game of a doubleheader played against the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 4, 1968. The line-up card features the Mets nine starters filled out in blue ballpoint pen with player substitutions written in pencil. Featured players include Tommy Agee, Cleon Jones, Ron Swoboda, and Ed Kranepool to name a few. Hodges is best remembered as a player for the Dodgers (1943, 1947-1963) and his management of the 1969 Miracle Mets in winning their first World Championship. While playing in Brooklyn, Hodges was an 8 time All-Star (1949-55 and 1957), participating in seven World Series including the Brooklyn Dodgers fabled 1955 World Series victory over the New York Yankees, tying for the major league record with four homeruns in one game and fittingly drove in the last Dodgers run at Ebbets Field. While Hodges was one of baseball's most feared hitters during the 1950's, he was an equally good fielder and was honored with the first three Gold Glove Awards ever presented (1957-1959). Hodges continues to receive strong support for admittance to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
