This extremely rare Mickey Mantle game used baseball cap worn by this legendary New York Yankee during the late 1960's is one of the few ever offered publicly for sale with the last one selling for nearly $65 thousand at auction. The size 7 3/8" hat is tagged by manufacturer Tim McAuliffe and displays the interlocking white "NY" logo embroidered on front. The cap shows excessive game use as evidenced by its broken bill, yet Mantle's signature and faded inscription of his uniform number "7," in black marker of the period are both still visible. The fragility of the hat may indicate Mantle's fondness for it -breaking the bill liner now since missing from repetitive handling at the hands of this superstar during the twilight of his career. Mantle started as a rookie with the Yankees in 1951 and led them to seven World Series before the end of that decade with the Yankee dynasty claiming five World Championship titles. Mantle's personal accomplishments were exceptional; winning the American League MVP in 1956, 1957 and again in 1962 and being awarded the 1956 Triple Crown award. Mantle's eighteen World Series homeruns is still the record today. To date, Mickey Mantle remains one of the most beloved figures in the history of American sport with his game used articles of significance rating among the most sought after of any player.
