This graphic Major League baseball artifact is an original vintage on deck batting circle from Shea Stadium, home to the New York Mets National League baseball franchise. The batting circle, which measures 5 feet in diameter, weighs approximately 40 pounds and is constructed of a rubber-like material measuring about 2 inches thick, can fill any room with its presence. Its familiar New York Mets logo is untouched and appears as it did upon the circle's removal from the infield area of Shea Stadium where it once dominated. Unlike any other base that configures baseball's familiar "baseball diamond," the batting circle is one surface that every player in the batting line-up of both the visiting and home Mets ball club would come in contact with. And, it is obvious that many players have touched this circle with their spikes from the fabulous game-used appearance so evident when looking at this rare stadium artifact. This batting circle also supported the bats of both National and American League stars alike since the introduction of inter-league play some years ago. This is the first of such "stadiana" that we have had the pleasure to offer and we are certain will increase in "collectability" as the Mets will eventually call a new Stadium home, making original Shea artifacts such as this even greater treasures to acquire.
