This is an historic original 8 X 10 black and white photograph of the United States Army Band on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol signed by Warrant Officer William J. Stannard in black fountain pen. Stannard was the first official leader of The U.S. Army Band (1923-1935). Among his many achievements, Stannard conducted the band in its first radio broadcast on April 16, 1923, and was the leader of the band at the ceremony honoring Charles Lindberg’s historic flight across the Atlantic Ocean in the “Spirit of St. Louis.” The United States Army Band is sometimes referred to as Pershing’s band after General Pershing who first established it in 1922. In more recent years the Band has become much more active, performing at events of National interest such as the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Comes with a certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item.
